This document answers commonly asked questions about landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities.
Everyone can have a healthy home. This check list and accompanying illustrations show some key action steps to take in each room of the house.
- List the conditions, good or bad, of the major
components of the unit. - Both the landlord and tenant should sign the list and keep
a copy for their records. - After the start of occupancy, the tenant has seven (7) days to inform the landlord of other damages or defects not discovered during the joint inspection.
- This will serve as documentation of initial property conditions when the tenant vacates the property.
Failure of a landlord to use a written check-in/check-out procedure will serve as evidence that the tenant is correct in any dispute over property conditions, unless a governmental third-party has previously verified property conditions.
