Wisconsin law prohibits automotive type batteries from being disposed of in landfills.
The Department of Public Works does not collect batteries from residents.
Recycling Options:
Don’t forget to recycle the batteries that are used in the household too. Batteries in smoke alarms, flash-lights, radios, cameras, watches, tools and toys. If the battery is labeled “rechargeable”, it is prob-ably a lithium battery and should be taken to a retailer who will take the battery back for recycling. Mercury type batteries are usually a small silver colored button type battery and should also be taken to a participating retailer.
If you are having a difficult time finding out what to do with used batteries and where you can take them to be recycled, use the list from the chart to find the nearest recycling retailer in your area. | All Batteries / Rechargeable | Auto |
