Main Street Reconstruction Project Begins April 21

The City of Racine will begin a significant roadway reconstruction project on Main Street from Goold Street to Melvin Avenue starting Monday, April 21, 2025. The project will be completed in multiple phases and is expected to finish by the end of October 2025. Both the Goold Street and Melvin Avenue intersections will remain open throughout construction.

Project Phases:

  • Phase 1 (Goold to Augusta Street)

This segment will be fully closed to traffic for complete reconstruction. Work will begin April 21 and is expected to be completed by June 21, allowing the road to reopen in time for the Lighthouse Run and Fourth of July events.

    • Detour route: Melvin Avenue, Erie Street, and Goold Street.

  • Phase 2 (Augusta to Melvin Avenue)

Begins Monday, July 7, and will be completed in two parts:

    • The western portion will be reconstructed first, with one lane of northbound traffic maintained.

    • Once complete, crews will shift to the eastern portion, allowing one lane of southbound traffic, while northbound traffic is detoured.

Traffic & Parking Information:

  • No parking will be allowed on N. Main Street during construction.

  • Alternate side parking restrictions will be waived within a two-block radius of the project area.

  • Access to driveways and nearby side streets (such as Augusta, Wolff, and William Streets) will be limited depending on construction activity and traffic direction.

  • The City will accommodate special access needs and can provide designated handicap parking upon request.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow posted signage and detour routes. The City appreciates your patience as we work to improve our roadways.
