City of Racine hosts a Clean Sweep Chemical Collection Program throughout the year which assists eligible local small businesses in the proper disposal of their unwanted hazardous chemicals. Clean Sweep offers a convenient, safe, and low cost way to dispose of those unwanted hazardous chemicals. City of Racine is partnering with Veolia to provide collection and disposal services. Please help us protect your Racine County environment through participation in this chemical collection program.
Small Business Participation and Fees:
Generally most small businesses will be eligible to participate, if they are classified as Very Small Quantity Generators of hazardous waste by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. A Small Business that generates under 220 pounds of hazardous waste in a month and stores less than 2,205 pounds of hazardous waste in a year may qualify for Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) status. Veolia offers free guidance to interested small businesses to help determine your eligibility to participate.
Disposal fees depend on the amount and type of hazardous chemicals that you bring to the program. Agricultural related businesses that offer chemicals like pesticides or herbicides, may qualify for funding assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Veolia provides free, no-obligation estimates of your disposal fees – simply complete and return the pre-registration and inventory form. Not all chemical wastes are legally defined as “hazardous”, if your unwanted chemicals fit some other definition, your final costs may be lower than what you might expect. Veolia will help determine your eligibility and will guide your participation in the program, from registration through delivery of your materials.
Pre-Registration is Required:
Small businesses who are interested in participating in the Clean Sweep Chemical Collection Program must pre-register by completing the “VSQG Chemical Inventory Sheet” below. The completed form can be e-mailed to Allan Kountz @ allan.kountz@veolia.com, or contact Allan directly at (262) 255-6655. Registration is open year round!
On-site collections are available for eligible & registered participants every 3rd Saturday, April to October.
